Cinco de Mayo
Where are you headed for Cinco de Mayo? The Mexican population in East Harlem has been growing since the 1990s, with the majority of families coming from the Mixteca region of Mexico, which is comprised of the states of Puebla, Guerrero and Oaxaca.
El Barrio now has more than 30 Mexican eateries to serve you, whether you’re feeling comfortable with outdoor dining, indoor dining, delivery or takeout. If you’ve not yet tried birria: Both Cafe Ollin and La Chula have added it to their menus, and on weekends you can find the Harlem Birria food truck on 116th Street.
Also make sure to try out traditional bakeries Don Paco Lopez Panaderia and San Agustin Bakery, and the El Paso and Harlem Birria food trucks on 116th Street. If you’re looking for colorful crafts and clothing, try Azteca Western.
